When Ari went for a walk yesterday morning it was still foggy. He said it was really weird walking round the fields and not knowing if there was anyone else there. He made my Mistress promise that she wouldn’t tell him any scary stories while they were walking as he wasn’t sure he liked it and thought he might easily get spooked. By the time Shadow and I went out in the afternoon the fog had cleared, so it wasn’t too bad. We went to a different place anyway. Where he went was near the brook, which probably explains why the fog was as bad. Having said that where we live is at the end of a large plain and it does tend to be covered in fog quite a lot at this time of year. There are two beautiful areas of hills in the county we live in, but we live in the bit between them both. It’s really very flat around here, which is how we get to walk on an airfield. It’s not in use by planes now. It was a military airfield in the last World War. It was farm land before that and is farmland again now, it’s just that it has the moss covered runways across the fields and they don’t get muddy. It’s an eerie place to walk as you can feel so far from civilization. My Mistress loves it for that reason. You can see a long way, but in no direction do you tend to see other people. Sometimes she says she can almost imagine it with the planes taking off or coming back into land. I said, that’s because one of the fields is used by a local model aircraft club and it’s not uncommon to find low flying crafts zooming up and down, but she says it’s not just that. Because there is very little of the 21st Century in evidence, it’s very easy just to think back to an earlier time.
