Yesterday my Mistress, her sister and Shadow set off for the Cleveland Way. When they set off it was dry, but it certainly didn’t stay that way for long. When they got to the start point, they all put on their waterproofs and set off into the hills. It had started to rain by that point. My Mistress and Shadow walked the first two miles and then turned round and did two miles back to the car. By the time they got back they were both very wet and after drying Shadow with the towel, by which time the towel was very muddy, my Mistress realised she didn’t have another towel in the car to dry herself. Today her main job will be to spray her waterproofs with waterproofing spray as they did not do a very good job yesterday. The biggest problem was around the zip – that bit of her was very wet, the rest was just damp all over. At least her sister was better prepared, but then she had rather more miles to do before getting to her destination for the night. Ari and I were just glad that neither of us had to go, but Shadow seems to have enjoyed it and was still wagging her tail by the time she got home.
My Mistress then spent the afternoon cooking, which is usually one of our favourite times, but we were banished as she was making mince pies and the contents have things in that are toxic to dogs. I know mince pies are usually baked at Christmas, it’s just that they are my Master’s favourite and he usually takes one with his packed lunch. My Mistress bought as many as she could when they were available at Christmas and filled the freezer with them, but the last packet is now almost empty so she has relented and said she would cook some for him. It’s not quite as adventurous as it sounds as she’s cheating. I don’t think I’m supposed to mention it, but she bought frozen uncooked pastry as she isn’t very good at making it.
