Tuesday 28th January 2014 – Day 31 in the little puppy house

IMG_0876I did it. I swam. Ok, so I was terrified, but I did actually swim. The first lap I didn’t know what to do and was really floundering. I hadn’t worked out that I needed to kick my back legs as well as my front ones. Then on the second lap, which was after a good break to calm down, I worked it out and found I was swimming. I didn’t enjoy it and I’m not sure I shall be ready to go in next time but I have actually been in the swimming pool and here’s the photo to prove it.

The puppies are ok, even though they are reluctant to move onto the puppy food. My Mistress is tearing her hair out with them over eating. She is torn between the need to get them to move on and not wanting them to be left hungry and losing weight. She’s drawn up a plan of what extras are being withdrawn when, with the aim being that they will be completely on puppy food by the middle of next week. Today they will get an extra bowl of the baby food mix on only three of their five meals, but Shadow will still go in to them on all five. If they ask for any extra meals they will only be offered the puppy food mix. She has also taken the baby rice out of the mix so they are only getting full by eating the puppy food and not the baby rice.

Today will be the first time of some of the puppies having blanket time. It is also the first time they will be having a little sleep on their own. It will be Cinderella first, later this morning. She will have the opportunity after their meal at 10 today. Casanova will have the chance this afternoon and then Cosette this evening. Tomorrow Chekov will start his turns too. When they do it we have to keep an eye that they don’t wake and feel distressed that they are on their own. Blanket time has to be good time and not time that they experience any worry.
