Friday 30th August 2013 – French

Why is it that when people set themselves a challenge they don’t choose things they have a fighting chance of succeeding in? Having had to give up further grades in the keyboard because of her bad hand, my Mistress has now decided to learn French. Why not German? It would be far more useful to her. No, she has decided on French as she thinks she has a fighting chance of making progress. However, why in her optimism has she sent for the advanced course when she is nowhere near completing the basic one? It’s all right for you. You don’t have to listen to her practicing. You know what it’s like when someone does a language course, the strangest of phrases are the ones that stick and things they are never likely to have to say. When she was learning Flemish her favourite was ‘The lion is in the garden’, when she learnt a little German it was ‘I have bought a new jacket’, which incidentally she could use now if only she weren’t in England! On the French basic course the one that has stuck is ‘This green does not go at all with the décor’. When, oh when, is that one going to come in useful?

As Annie shoots off to Germany to meet the stud dog, hopefully before she is too late as apparently she has already ovulated, it seems that Shadow has started moulting. Normally the girls moult 4 to 6 weeks before their season so my Mistress is wondering if it may be a little earlier than she was expecting. In some ways that would be a good thing, as long as it’s not too soon, but if we aren’t careful my Mistress is going to be spending Christmas and New Year sleeping on a mattress in the utility looking after puppies. At least the new freezer is quieter than the old one, which is definitely going to be a blessing when it comes to getting any sleep.
