Monday 5th August 2013 – A little operation

Shadow is fed up that she can’t have breakfast today. She said it wasn’t that she was actually feeling hungry and in need of breakfast, it’s just the principle of it. As soon as you are told you can’t have something, you inevitably want it more than would otherwise. Anyway, she can’t as she’s having an anaesthetic. She’ll be off to the vet this morning to have her toe seen too. I said she’d got bunions and the trendy high heels she wears won’t have made things any better. She pointed out that she might have a long sock on her front left paw but she has never worn shoes in her life. Megan asked if eating shoes counted. Mind you, she only ate the one she had to wear when she had a bad paw. She’s never worn any other shoes.

What is it with women and shoes? My Mistress had a lovely pair that matched the dress she was wearing my Granny’s party but said she didn’t want to wear them as they had high heels and a) would be hard to stand around in and b) she would sink into the grass when she went round the grounds of the place they were visiting. Instead she wore some canvas shoes which … got soaked walking through the wet grass in the grounds of the place they were at. It was quite close to a village she used to live in and which she has very happy memories of. Before she came home she drove round the village and came away quite disappointed saying it just wasn’t quite how she remembered it. In her mind she’d erased the not so good bits and replaced them with some imagined bits. This only proves the dangers of going back. It’s something that has been worrying me about my holiday in Belgium. I’ve not been back apart from one visit about six months after we left, since we lived there and that was 5 years ago. I just know it’s not going to be the same.
