The grand opening, or at least its equivalent, took place yesterday when my Mistress had carefully planted all the seeds. There were the usual comments of ‘Do you know what you are doing?’ to which she answered honestly that she did not. Helpful voices asked ‘Do you think they are too close together?’ to which once again she was honest and said ‘Probably’. There were two further unhelpful interventions. My Master asking a couple of hours after planting why there was nothing to see and then there was our little input… It turns out that organic plant food is made of a mixture of alfalfa, comfrey and seaweed and it also turns out that the smell of those is particularly attractive to dogs, especially me! Oh I begged to be given some, but my Mistress made it abundantly clear that I had grown quite enough and this was to help the plants grow. She then hid the packaging where I can’t get to it. When I say ‘hid’, I saw exactly where she put it, but it’s under lock and key and I don’t have access to the key. She refrained from putting any on the pots at the lower level that risked me and Ari digging them up so we could have the plant food. It just means that the squashes probably won’t grow quite so large and it will be out fault! C’est la vie!

The other job she finally got round to was to put the pump back in the water fountain. She was going to do it a couple of days ago but she dropped the cable in the water so thought it best to dry it out thoroughly before plugging it into the electrics. Today she spent 15 minutes rigging it all up only to find it didn’t work. She then even went to the length of carefully rewiring the plug and changing the fuse but it still didn’t work. Now she’s got to take it out and work out if the pipe is blocked or the pump no longer working. These little jobs are rarely as little as you start out believing.
