Thursday 6th September 2012 – Ari’s Swimming

Ari still doesn’t actually want to go swimming, but at least yesterday when he got into the pool he started off without too much persuasion and swam a few lengths before saying he really wanted to get out again. It was funny when my Mistress came to put his harness on him to set off. It was too tight. With all this exercise his chest is filling out and he’s becoming quite the little man. After a while in the pool they put some water jets on for him to swim against the current. It’s the first time he’s had to do that and it made him use all his legs more fully to be a strong enough swimmer. He said it was an odd sensation swimming really hard and not going very far. By the time he got out he was feeling all woozy and wobbly so although he had been promised a trip to the garden centre to choose a new bowl for his mother, my Mistress thought that really ought to wait and brought him home again straight away. He perked up on the journey home and was ready to give me a run for my money. It is a shame he can’t join in the games of ball as I’d much rather run after the ball with him than I would the girls. I’ve taken a new approach with the girls. I know they don’t want me to get the ball so I don’t even try. I do pick up the occasional stray ball and bring it back, just to feel as though I have achieved something, but for the most part, I have decided I will be a herding dog and run round to keep the girls together in their pursuit of the ball and then herd them again to bring them back to the right place in the garden. Now that my Mistress has realised what I’m doing she’s praising me for that rather than being sorry I don’t get the ball.
