I have been wondering how the Norfolk Broads got their name. Now I can understand the Norfolk bit, I’m not totally stupid, but why Broads? Really they are rather large expanses of water but is that all there is to it? If we were in America I would think it was named after some local women but I haven’t seen anyone round here claiming to be American and in this country using the term ‘broad’ to describe a woman is likely to result in considerable upset.
It does occur to me that I am much closer to my country of birth here. I was wondering if I could take control of the boat and point it towards the coast of Belgium. I don’t know whether we’d have enough diesel to get across or whether we might run out part way. I don’t think we’ve got either a sail or any oars to get us the rest of the way. I could use some of my Mistress’s shirts if I could find something to act as a frame for a sail. I know I’m going soon, it’s just that I am rather impatient to see Mum and the puppies.
