Four Seasons in One Day – Wednesday 7th October 2020

Four seasons in one day

Yesterday was one of those four seasons in one day kind of a day. Ok, maybe not all four, it wasn’t all that cold. We were having such a lovely time outside on a dry sunny morning. Ari had, as usual, helped Mum feed the birds and the squirrels. We’d sat at the back fence listening to other neighbourhood dogs barking and were wondering whether to join in. Shadow had barked non-stop at the sound of local farm machinery going about their jobs. It was one of those perfect days. Then the sky went black and it rained heavily.

Tidying his room

That was the point that Mum told Aristotle it was time for him to tidy his room and clean it. He was of course horrified. He’s been carefully nurturing all that dirt and thought he’d be able to keep building it up for a while yet. Humans have this thing about cleanliness. Ok, so the dead flies are a bit much, but Shadow has that sorted pretty quickly when she goes in. Ari might be nine, but in some ways he’s a typical teenage boy and sometimes you can tell that by the smell. His room smells completely different to mine and Shadow’s. It’s funny really. It’s not a bad smell, but it’s definitely ‘boy’.

Chiming the hour

The downside of Mum catching up with some of the cleaning is she remembers to wind the clock in the hall. That in itself is not a bad thing as long as you can sleep through it chiming every quarter hour. Ari sleeps closest to it and he is not pleased with this development at all. It’s unlikely she’ll remember to rewind it in eight days when it runs down, so he just needs to be patient.
