Wednesday 22nd March 2017 – The wrath of the weather gods

No sooner to I extol the virtues of spring being in the air than the weather gods unleash a torrent of abuse. Well, obviously it might be all right where you are, but here we have had strong winds, sleet, hail, a wind chill that could have turned Marta Hari to ice and a general proof that very little can be relied upon. This is where living on an island is a pain. Oh it might not get as cold as it does in the middle of a continent, but we never know what it’s going to do from one minute to the next. I blame our Mistress for switching back to her summer tyres on the car. If she hadn’t done that we might have enjoyed soaring temperatures and be able to bask in global warming. I nearly resorted to my fleece coat after swimming yesterday, but I didn’t want to look soft.

Shadow is fed up with me because while she has had to diet very hard in order to lose weight I seem to be managing to lose some weight without trying. I was surprised when I got on the scales at swimming yesterday to find I’m only 28kg. That must be the lightest I’ve been for the last nine years or more. On the bright side, our Mistress says I can have an extra treat or two, but she doesn’t want me to have too many. What was interesting at swimming yesterday was that there was a dog in the other room barking and I didn’t freak out. Our Mistress says she thinks the beta blockers seem to be really helping me. When I thought about it I wasn’t as stressed in kennels either so maybe they are doing me good. I wouldn’t go as far as saying I feel sociable but having other dogs around doesn’t seem quite so bad as it did.

  1. Glad you are feeling better Alfie and less stressed. Weather was very cold and windy here yesterday and wet so far today. Happy Wednesday to you all. xx

  2. So glad to hear you’re feeling better, Alfie, and I’m sure Spring will be here soon, properly! Like you, we really had ‘weather’ yesterday, rain, hail, snow and a blizzard, almost all at once, all melted away by dark, though – and this morning a heavy frost. I’m hoping the weather gods soon realise their mistake. Keep well, Alfie, hugs xxx
