Tuesday 26th July 2016 – A birthday of two halves

Horsie is no more
Horsie is no more

Wilma had a very mixed day yesterday. It would have all been pretty good if she hadn’t had a moment of forgetting herself and played tug with Aristotle using Horsie as the tug toy. Horsie, her dearest companion from puppyhood is no more. I do wonder if some of it might have been a bit of a statement on Wilma’s part that she is now to be

regarded as a grown up dog, who doesn’t need a soft toy to comfort her. Oh she regretted it as soon as it had happened, and the more so when I pointed out that I still treasure my soft toy that Dickens gave me a few years ago and take it to bed every night. She looked very crestfallen then. Our Mistress has said that if they have one next time she calls at the shop at the kennels then she will buy Wilma a new Horsie as long as she promises to take care of it.

Apart from that she had more birthday wishes than I think the rest of us get put together and went for a lovely long walk with Shadow. Shadow came home saying she would need a rest day after two long walks on consecutive days. Wilma came home saying she was ready to go again if our Mistress could spare the time! As if all that wasn’t enough, she went out for a meal in the evening and has been invited to go for Granny’s birthday meal on Saturday. I think it was that last bit that really upset me. Why can’t I go

to Granny’s meal? Oh I know I don’t really like going anywhere different these days and it all throws me rather, but an invite would have been nice! Wilma gets to go everywhere. Yes I know she’s the one who behaves best and isn’t put out if she meets other dogs, but it doesn’t mean I’m not a little bit jealous.
