The pups are starting to get into a routine
and the best part is that at last Shadow has enough milk and they are eating until
they roll off happy. It is amazing watching them grow at this stage. I know this phot may seem a little odd, but it is a puppy ear. Yesterday morning they were still little flaps of skin sticking pretty much straight up. Through the day they grew so much they started to flop over and down as you expect them to and by today they really have taken on the shape of a miniature ear. Compare with the picture
of Duchess from 2 days ago.
They still can’t hear yet as their ears are closed at birth and their eyes too come to that, but in another week or so they will be hearing and seeing for the first time and that in itself is an amazing part of the process. Our Mistress loves being one of the first things the puppies see, but it’s funny even when they meet her later it is not the sight of her that makes them excited it is the smell. Sometimes if she hasn’t seen one of them for a while when she comes into view she gets no reaction, but as soon as they can smell her they go into little raptures of excitement. Our smell memory is very deep and we don’t really ever forget.
As to weights, well that is all going as we would like. Duchess is amazing. She added 95g and is already 750g. Della added 70g bringing her up to 620g and both Dixie and D’Artagnan added 60g taking them to 675g and 690g respectively. By contrast Shadow is starting to look much slimmer and says she is feeling a lot more agile than she did, although her bad leg is a bit uncomfortable today so she’s promised not to overdo it.
I’m off to spend my day trying to get a good video for you and will bring it to you later. I need to wait until the washing machine and tumble dryer have finished as I want to try to capture the amount of noise they make for you – the puppies that is, not the washing machine and tumble dryer!
