Tuesday 25th August 2015 – Best laugh in ages

Oh if only I could bring you the photograph, but I wasn’t allowed to take one. My Master and Mistress were cleaning out a blocked gutter. The blockage was just above where the rain water comes into the water butt so it involved removing the lower part of the guttering and then dislodging all the leaves that had clogged it all up. My Master and I had worked out what was going to happen next long before it did. My Mistress had not! He and I were standing back at some distance as she worked hard at dislodging the leaves. Now picture the scene. Our Mistress was wearing shorts and a t-shirt and standing close to the guttering working, when all enough of the leaves were dislodged to allow all the dirty water and the rest of the blockage to come spraying out at some force and covering her from head to toe in dirty rainwater. Oh we laughed. Fortunately she was the one laughing loudest as she dripped leaf fragments and dirty water from every part of her. Looking on the bright side at least the blockage is now cleared!

In the meantime the weather has been so bad that a mud slide has closed one of the roads out of the village and at least one family of birds are homeless as their nest has been washed or blown down. Aristotle wasn’t impressed as the skylight in his room leaked. Fortunately it is not above his bed but he was still not thrilled by the situation. Our Mistress reassured him saying the conditions were exceptional and she hoped it was just that the window hadn’t closed properly. She has promised to keep an eye on it for him. Looking on the bright side we’re not going to be having any water shortages anytime soon!
