Monday 20th July 2015 – Packed and ready to go

Shadow is pacing up and down waiting for our Mistress and Andrew to be ready to go. They aren’t actually leaving until just after 9, but Shadow has been ready since five. She says she’ll be happier once her blood test is over and they are on the road where she can relax for a while. He blood test will check her progesterone level and give our Mistress an idea of when they should go to the stud dog first. They won’t get the result until sometime tomorrow while they are driving but our Mistress is expecting Wednesday or Thursday to be their first visit to see the stud dog. Shadow is having another progesterone test on Wednesday morning too, to be on the safe side.

It is hard travelling with an in season dog. Shadow will still need chance to stretch her legs and go to the toilet, but of course she can’t be around other dogs because boys start to get ideas! It’s all too easy for an unwelcome ‘incident’ to occur. On one occasion our Mistress found herself trying to get Shadow back to and in the car very very quickly to escape an off lead entire male. It was all a bi traumatic for both of them. Anyway, Shadow is very good about it all and doesn’t ask to get out too often. Their hotel tonight is one they’ve used before and that has been quite easy in the past. It’s a sort of motel in France where they can part right outside the room and Shadow doesn’t have to walk through lots of corridors.

Talking about Shadow travelling seems a good time to say that we’ve been asked by The Kennel Club to remind you of the new microchipping requirements. All you dogs out there need to make sure that by the new legislation taking effect next year, not only do you have a microchip but you have made sure your human has updated their contact details so that it is up to date.

We know what it’s like to lose a dog and to be honest there’s nothing worse. If they are chipped and their details are up to date you stand a much better chance of being reunited quickly. It’s easy to do and can save a lot of heartache as well as being a legal requirement.
