Today was one of those days when I woke up feeling glad that I’m not American. Now please don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing fundamentally against Americans. They may misrepresent our language and think that Russia is a province of Alaska, but there are limits. When the alarm went off this morning, the newsreader was telling me all about the implications of Hilary Clinton failing to get the Democratic nomination and I just wanted to shout ‘I don’t care’. For a start I’m a dog and therefore whether it is a man or a woman that wins the nomination is of no particular consequence but more importantly this isn’t the real election. How can you get this excited about deciding who you want to put up for election? There are some people out there who seriously need to get a life. I can only think they have become election junkies and get some sort of high from constant election fever. It’s a bit like Che Guevara going from mercenary conflict to mercenary conflict looking for kicks. Mind you perversely he ended up as a fashion icon so he must have done something right. Perhaps in forty years time there will be thousands of t shirts with Hilary Clinton’s picture on it and no one really remembering what she stood for either.
At least now that I know who will be standing for the American presidential election I can write to them as leader of the Pet Dogs Democratic Party to ask them about their key policies concerning the rights and responsibilities of dogs. Will they for example be amending legislation to enable dogs to own property? It’s quite an important point when you think how many owners leave everything to Rover or Spot in their wills.
