I\u2019m fed up. It really wasn\u2019t my fault that Mum hurt her leg. I know it was me she did the back flip over to get off the settee but it could have been anyone. She forgot she\u2019s not as young as she used to be and doesn\u2019t bounce in quite the same way. It was a bit like the time Alfie told me about when our Mistress decided to do a forward roll round a bar in a playground in Belgium and landed flat on her back on the floor. I guess you just get to an age where your head forgets how old your body is! Shadow\u2019s 6 now, which would be 42 in human years and she\u2019s middle aged whichever way she looks at it. Anyway, I\u2019m really sad she\u2019s hurt because she\u2019s my main playmate and it\u2019s no fun without her. It makes me realise how much I\u2019m looking forward to us having a new puppy, although by then I\u2019ll be 4 years old so I guess I\u2019ll have to remember I\u2019m not a puppy anymore. Alfie\u2019s the sensible one round here, but then I guess he was already 6 when I was born, so I\u2019ve never known him as a young dog. I don\u2019t think of him as having been like me once. Then my Mistress found me a photo of him<\/p>\n\n\n\n
playing when he was young and I was really shocked. What Alfie? Big, reliable, calm Alfie? She started telling me about all the ditches he jumped over and the time he cleared the settee from back to front in one leap. I have to say he\u2019s rather gone up in my estimation. I tried asking him about it and he got a distant look in his eye remembering playing with his old best friend, Elvis, when he was a puppy. He looked kind of sad. He doesn\u2019t see Elvis anymore as he moved to America and Alfie moved to England. It did all make me see him in a bit of a new light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
