It was an easy delivery, despite them being the size of three month old Entlebuchers. The doorbell rang and they were signed for. We were a little worried that the membrane they were contained in might not be letting them breathe so we split it as quickly as we could and revived them, but they were fine. One readymade little family courtesy of Ikea. They eat less, behave better and are cuddly in bed – I should probably be worried! They aren’t as big as us when we are full-grown though and they aren’t warm with a heartbeat that synchronises with yours as you cuddle us. I guess with technology it’s only a matter of time before one wins Crufts! Their markings are definitely even, although I did find a couple of odd threads, but I don’t think there is anything in our breed standard about threads. They must be girls as they have some bits missing to be boys. I’m just not sure which age class they should enter. The minimum age is somewhere around 6 or 8 months and these definitely look below the minimum. I presume they won’t grow.

On the way home in the car earlier we noticed one of those nodding dog toys in the back of the car in front. It was sitting on the parcel shelf, its little head going up and down in perfect time with the rhythm of the car. It was marked to look just like a miniature Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The resemblance was uncanny. We followed it for a couple of miles and then it yawned! I think it probably says something about the basic nature of small spaniels but I wouldn’t like to go too far down that road.

Alfie’s Diary – the Book is available at Amazon UK –https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00583ZGSA

You can find short stories to read at www.alfiedog.com

Here is Shadow with her D litter.
