That means 1) she’s moody 2) she can’t go for a walk and 3) she’s driving us mad. Fortunately she’ll be able to go for a walk in a day or two and I’m counting down the hours even more than she is. I’m not so relaxed anymore and come to that I don’t think my Mistress is either. Aristotle is very excited about Megan being in season and is having to be kept apart. The problem with that is they are calling to each other across the house and that’s no fun for anybody.

The vegetables have been looked after while we’ve been away and are looking very green…with holes in! Unfortunately we have caterpillars. Now, I’m not talking about one or two cute little caterpillars that will turn into one or two beautiful butterflies. I’m talking millions! And sadly that is probably not an exaggeration. There are hundreds on almost every leaf, that is those leaves they haven’t finished eating yet. To describe it as an infestation would be to describe the M25 as a busy road – a totally pointless statement that underestimates the severity of the problem. The fennel still looks ok, but I think it’s safe to say that in the growing of organic cauliflower and purple sprouting broccoli, round one has gone to the caterpillars. Someone has suggested that my Mistress should be removing them with her bare hands but she says that is right up there with disposing of the half decomposed pigeon that had died outside the back door while we were away.

With my Mum.

I’ve got some photos from holiday to show you over the next few days but I thought I would start with my favourite with my Mum whispering to me. It was so good to see her. I just wish I could see her more often. People question how good a dog’s memory is, but you never forget your mum, even when you haven’t seen her for a few years.

Alfie’s Diary – the Book is available at Amazon UK –https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00583ZGSA

You can find short stories to read at www.alfiedog.com

The girls are back and worse than that is the fact that Megan is in season.
