Aristotle is still a puppy, a very bright puppy but a puppy none the less. He\u2019s not as widely read as he likes to pretend and yesterday there was a perfect example. The vegetable trough is now complete, except for finishing filling it with compost and planting the seeds, both of which will be happening today. Ari came rushing in when he\u2019d seen it for the first time and said \u2018there\u2019s an oesophagus in the garden\u2019. Thinking he might be trying to use a long word when a short one would do, I went out expecting to find that Shadow had killed a small animal and left part of its innards for inspection. He was pointing to the vegetable trough. \u2018It\u2019s an oesophagus, like the ancient Egyptians had.\u2019 At that point the penny dropped as to what he meant. \u2018Oh a sarcophagus!\u2019 Well to be fair I can see the resemblance and I\u2019m hoping that is only a coincidence and that it is only carrot seeds that my Mistress is planning to bury in the middle.<\/p>\n
Once the seeds go in we have an important job to do in keeping the birds away so that they don\u2019t steal them. A few of the blackbirds have already been investigating the contents and I\u2019m thinking having it so close to the bird bath may not be such a good idea. There is a move round of various planters and the outside table today so maybe that will be taken into account.<\/p>\n
Megan is getting worried about going away. One of our friends said to her that she should look at it like a human child going away to university, which seemed quite a good analogy. She says she\u2019s worried we\u2019ll forget her, but I reassured her that there was no chance of any of us ever doing that.<\/p>\n
