I\u2019m going to be in trouble. My mistress left me with work to do while she was away and instead I have spent my time contemplating my midlife crisis options. Do you think it would be possible for me to take early retirement and simply spend my time with my paws up relaxing? I\u2019m not entirely sure that I want to grow old just yet and I\u2019m worried that if I retire I may feel as though I am on a downward slope. I know I am the head of a publishing empire, but most of the time it is a figurehead role which does not require me to tax my thinking. When many humans think about early retirement they plan to travel and go on journeys they have been unable to undertake while working. The problem with that for me is that unless my mistress also takes early retirement then I don\u2019t really want to go anywhere else. Sadly, by the time she gets to retire I will probably not be around to enjoy it with her. Getting older is really not much fun either dog or human, but I guess we can at least take care of each other. Maybe after all it is time to take up a new skill I\u2019m just not really sure what I\u2019m suited to except for writing. I\u2019ve never really fancied golf and the problem with either fishing or boating is that there is water involved and I absolutely don\u2019t like water. I\u2019m starting to wish that I had learnt some other skills earlier in life and envy those of my kind who are trained in such roles as disaster rescue. I think I need to get out more and broaden my horizons.<\/p>\n
