Tucker is a very rare dog indeed, as he is polydactyl. What that means is that on his back feet he has 5 toes on each foot. A dog normally has 4 full toes and pads. We sometimes have what are called dew claws, but they sort of hand a bit further up and don’t have a pad to them. We usually have those removed to stop us catching them and tearing them. They aren’t properly attached so can cause all sorts of problems. Anyway, back at being polydactyl, only the Norwegian Lundehund has more than four normally and they usually have six! Anyway, Tucker is very rare and very special. We’ve found things on the internet where people talk about it but we haven’t found anywhere where they actually know a polydactyl dog and we can say we not only know one, but that Shadow gave birth to him. These pictures are of his back paws.

The puppies are now using the feeding station to eat from. The good news is that my Mistress can put it in and out without puppies climbing up her legs. The bad news is they puppies seem to want to go underneath it as she tries to put it in and when they’ve emptied the bowls take them out and use them as play things. That didn’t happen last year!

Everyone has now passed the 4kg mark. Dickens is 4650g so he’s rapidly heading for 5kg. Tucker is 4.5kg but has been overtaken by Basil who is having a late spurt and weighs 4510g. The girls are a little more delicate. Tess is 4390g and Beija 4110g. It’s a good job they’ve all got homes to go to as all of Aristotle, my Mistress and my Master have fallen in love with little Tess. They think she’s going to be like me in character as she grows up. She is so very gentle and loving. We have enough! Really we do – there are four of us already. Stop with the going soft. Stop now! Thankfully her future owner is coming to visit her on Friday so there won’t be a problem.

Alfie Dog with a little help from Rosemary J Kind alfie@alfiedog.me.uk

Alfie’s Diary – the Book is available at Amazon UK –https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00583ZGSA

You can find short stories to read at www.alfiedog.com

I thought I’d tell you a little about our very special puppy Tucker.
