Puppies cannot regulate their body temperature when they are born and therefore need to be kept at a constant warm temperature. It seems my Mistress can’t regulate her body temperature all that well either and has managed to sweat her way through two pairs of pyjamas and 2 sets of sheets so far this week. If you’ve been watching and caught a glimpse of the pyjamas on the camera then be reassured they have been washed and dried the same day which is why they look exactly the same! Be thankful you don’t get the smell and atmosphere as well. Or the noise for that matter. It’s not so bad when Britannia is chirping away happily to herself, but most of the time it’s hard to hear over the washing machine and tumble dryer.

Shadow has reached the stage where she doesn’t need to stay in with the puppies quite so much. So far she is being very good, getting in and feeding them every 20 -30 minutes and sometimes staying in with them, but other times she is really ready to get out and see what’s going on in the world. She never wants to go too far in case the puppies call her, but she does hate to miss out. On the upside it means we see a little more of my Mistress as she comes out with Shadow more frequently, but on the downside when Shadow does get in and out of the pen she is not being quite so delicate so causes my Mistress quite a lot of worry.

The puppies look all chubby and roly-poly. It’s funny, Aristotle never looked like that once last year. He did get a little round the middle and then flattened out again but I don’t think he’s has a day in his life when he’s looked chubby. Because there is less to keep Ari occupied at the moment he has been going for walks round the village. He loves it, but we’re just hoping it doesn’t set his leg back as he was doing so well. It may be a couple of weeks before my Mistress can get out to take him swimming. He might even realise he misses it…but then again!

Alfie Dog with a little help from Rosemary J Kind alfie@alfiedog.me.uk

Alfie’s Diary – the Book is available at Amazon UK –https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00583ZGSA

There are things about dog breeding that you don’t really think about.
