No sooner has she finished the first draft of her current novel than my Mistress has worked out a plot for the next one. There she was yesterday contemplating a short story topic, when she had a flash of inspiration. She has described it to me and all I can say is that I don\u2019t want to be the one to read it for her as I shall probably have nightmares. It can only be described as a dark psychological thriller, but it certainly sounds exciting if you like that sort of thing. I asked when she envisaged writing it, but apparently that is unlikely to be for another six months, so you\u2019ll just have to wait. You\u2019ll be pleased to know that she did then come up with a short story idea and it was a lot less scary than her first idea was.<\/p>\n
The new house is progressing. At the moment there is a ladder for the staircase. I\u2019m just hoping that by the time we move in there are some stairs as Shadow and I will have really problems getting upstairs otherwise. I suppose I should look on the bright side, at least I wouldn\u2019t have as much problem with my Mistress with her vertigo. She absolutely would not cope with having to climb a ladder to get to bed. My Mistress went to see how the new kitchen is progressing, but there is no floor in the hall either so she couldn\u2019t get in. She\u2019ll just have to save that pleasure for another day.<\/p>\n
My Mistress is thinking of going into York this afternoon, just so that she can see what is happening with Borders book shop. It\u2019s like a final pilgrimage to the empty shell of what used to be her favourite place. It\u2019s also an opportunity to pick up some bargains in their sale, but that isn\u2019t the main reason for going. It\u2019s a tragedy when wonderful stores like that don\u2019t make it through the recession. It\u2019s as monumental as the closure of Woolworths.<\/p>\n
