There was a headline yesterday \u2018New laws to tackle binge drinking\u2019. Now I know I\u2019m only a dog, but how are these any different to the last lot of new laws to tackle binge drinking? After this lot, in a few months, I\u2019m guessing we\u2019ll have another headline saying \u2018new laws to tackle binge drinking\u2019. It isn\u2019t as if I\u2019ve ever known any dogs who binge drink.<\/p>\n
Whilst we\u2019re on the subject of headlines, I spotted another one yesterday that suggested the current economic situation made it more likely that the United Kingdom would join the Euro. It may not surprise you to learn it was said by someone not in the United Kingdom! It just goes to show that you shouldn\u2019t believe everything you hear in the news.<\/p>\n
Whilst the world was worrying itself with binge drinking and the Euro, I was more concerned with some white stuff falling out of the sky. I took one look and thought that on balance, going back to bed seemed like quite an attractive option. In retrospect, I can confirm that it was a very attractive option indeed. In campaigning for the rights of the working dog, I think my first priority should be to make sure that enough holiday is built into the schedule. We should be looking for a minimum of six weeks paid holiday. Perhaps given that we don\u2019t live as many years as humans, I should be pushing for more than this. What I can\u2019t decide is whether we should be recognising human bank holidays of whether we should have our own. We could have holidays for important occasions such as my birthday. There is probably a day when we should be celebrating the life and work of Lassie too, perhaps that could be our equivalent of Thanksgiving. I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll be pleased to know that I plan to keep Christmas and adopt a number of human traditions that go with it, principally the receiving of presents and overeating.<\/p>\n
