It’s a bit like squeezing jelly. If you put pressure on one bit it just comes out somewhere else. Yes of course, when in my training class, I will walk to heal and obey my Mistress’s every command, but then I’ll make up for it by having a good bark in the back garden, or by pulling on the lead when she doesn’t expect it, because I can smell a rabbit. Oh I’ve learnt to get the treats out of the treat toy and I’ll come in from the garden when the biscuit box is rattled, but I don’t see those as obedience things, I just see them as plain common sense. I want food. Food is available. I know how to get it. It doesn’t take Pavlov to work that one out. Now she’s gone and introduced this whistle thing. Well that’s great. Of course I can hear it, but then I could hear her voice before I was just choosing to ignore it. Then of course there’s the question of how I am supposed to differentiate between a whistle I need to respond to and one by Andy or James that I’d really be better ignoring. Now don’t get me wrong, it isn’t that I want to ignore their commands any more than anyone else’s, it’s just that all it generally signals with Andy is that he’s happily playing and entertaining himself. I’d hate to confuse that with a command to do something or an invitation to have another biscuit.

Oh dear, I really need to stop writing about food. I’ve made myself feel hungry. I wonder whether if I go and tap my paw on the treat toy, anyone will feel sorry for me and put some treats in it for me to find.

I’m not really taking this training thing as seriously as I’m expected to.
