I started with last year. Where has that time gone? In 2020 I was saying how pleased we were to have you all home. Ok, enough already. We didn’t expect this to go on quite so long.

Happy Dogs – 2020

Dear humans, I’m really sorry this is so hard for you all, but around the world there are a lot of happy dogs right now. There is nothing a dog likes more than having his or her pack close by. Having you all at home where we know exactly where you are is just the best situation ever as far as we are concerned. I’ve heard from friends all over the world who are happily spending their time staring at their humans. Obviously, they would rather you all got off the couch and played with them, but in the absence of that possibility staring at you is the next best thing. I do realise the intensity of our devotion may be freaking out one or two of you humans, but that can’t be helped.

The year before that Alfie was struggling with old age. It’s funny reading back and realising what lies ahead of all of us. Shadow has had to give stairs up and she’s pretty fed up about it too.

Alfie Finding it hard – 2019

I’m finding it hard, being an elderly dog. I’m doing my best, but there are some parts about it that could make me cry. I used to be able to jump ditches. Now it’s as much as I can do to get my rear end to stay upright. Whilst Ari is running upstairs taking three at a time I’m struggling with each and every one. Going up is ok most of the time, although it’s better if my Mistress will follow to keep my back end going forwards if it forgets. Going down is an altogether different situation. I do have occasional good days, when everything seems to work. Then I have days when quite honestly it’s more about carefully manoeuvring my front end down, with my Mistress supporting my weight and hoping my back end doesn’t get down first.

On a more cheerful note, I looked back another ten years to find out what was happening when Shadow first arrived on the scene. Oh Alfie did make me laugh with what he wrote.

Looking back to a Crazy Puppy 2009

We may look alike, but there the similarity ends. My companion is a hyperactive, neurotic, basket case. She is clearly not happy with her own company at night and having shredded the corners of the tablecloth, last night went to the trouble of pulling it and everything on it onto the floor. It was five in the morning. Normal people are asleep at that time. I was asleep at that time. My Mistress was the one who had to get up to clear up the debris and she wasn’t impressed.

Shadow April 2009

Yesterday we had a moment that about sums her up. There we were playing tug, me against an eight week old puppy. Hardly a fair contest but she is winning everything else. Anyway, when she couldn’t get the rope, rather than give up, she simply jumped up and grabbed my collar in her teeth. There she was dangling from my collar. Well what is a dog to do? She won’t even leave me alone when I want to go to the toilet. She’s a crazy dog.

Well that’s all for now.
