Oh, and I’ve sneaked in to do an extra
day’s diary too. Alfie said he didn’t mind and I was so excited to get the
chance to take part. Wilma said she had hoped to try her ball before me, but
she was quite nice about it. I’ve had to move straight from the rolled up towel
stage to the ball as we haven’t got a toy car for me to push yet. Anyway, here’s
what I had to do.

Pushing a towel

First of all, our Mistress put a treat just under the edge of the towel and told me to ‘push’ as I used my nose to get to the treat. Then she put a treat a bit further inside so I had to push a bit harder and move the towel further. After than she rolled the towel with treats at intervals and kept telling me to push to open it out to get the treats. I played along, but as Wilma had already told me what to do it all worked out quite well. I resisted the temptation to pick of the edge of the towel and scatter the treats. That would have spoiled our Mistress’s fun. That is of course one of the problems of having a thinking dog. We see shortcuts to problems.

Moving the ball

Then we moved on to me moving the ball. That was a little trickier. Not because I didn’t get what I had to do, but because we didn’t have anything to stand the ball on so that the treat could be hidden underneath. It meant I realised I could just go around the back of the ball to find the treat. There was also the small problem of the floor having a slight slope to it, so the ball kept moving out of my way.

I did enjoy stage one of my learning though and have asked to
do more. Because I can’t go for long walks our Mistress thinks it might be
especially good for me to wear myself out by doing these sorts of exercises. I’m
looking forward to it.

Have a great Wednesday

Aristotle

Learning to Push I’m learning to push.
