Queenie, (Queen Viktoria Spod Hradze) was a founder member of our Club and the first dog to breed under the Club’s guidelines. She was mother of fifteen puppies and grandmother of a further twenty-one of the UK Entlebucher population. She has been key to shaping our breed in this country and her legacy will always live on.

What was Queenie like?

She was thirteen years and four months old
when she died and she and I have known each other for the last eleven years. She
was the most energetic dog I’ve ever met. Not just Entlebucher, but any dog. She
never stopped. Show her a ball and she could run for twenty-four hours without
a break. She would have made a great working dog, instead she devoted her life
to furthering the breed which of course is just as important. She was also a
much loved family dog.

Funny Little Things

At times like this it’s good to remember the
funny little things. She was quite short for our breed and had to stand on
tiptoe to make sure she was tall enough to pass her breeding test. You wouldn’t
think that to look at some of her children and grandchildren. She battled
through snow to meet some of her breeding partners and is the only dog I know
who scared Shadow. Her name suited her perfectly and she was most certainly the
queen of her own little empire. She was the mother of my girlfriend Bella and
for that I will always be grateful. She gave me kennel cough once too and I was
less grateful for that.

We send our very best wishes to her family,
her companion Orson, and to all her children. She and Orson lived together for so
many years that he’s going to find it very hard and we really want him to know
we’re thinking of him.

Run free Queenie. Run like the wind and chase
every last ball you can find on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

With very much love

Alfie

© 2018 Rosemary J.
