Now I\u2019m sure our window cleaners are perfectly nice people, but they really set us all on edge. I don\u2019t know if it is Shadow reacting to their big red van at the outset, the fact that several strangers turn up at our house or their long poles with jets of water suddenly appearing out of nowhere at the windows. Whatever it is, by the time they leave we can all be relied upon to be making a lot of anxious noise. Our Mistress prefers if they call while she is out, but as she doesn\u2019t go out all that much she rarely gets that privilege. She has suggested to us that as we now know what to expect then we shouldn\u2019t react anymore. Fair point, but that\u2019s a bit like saying an army that as they know what it\u2019s like when their opponents come into view they should not bother to go on the offensive. Who knows what would happen if we weren\u2019t here to ward them off. You have to admit it\u2019s a fair point. As there hasn\u2019t been an instance that I\u2019m aware of when we haven\u2019t been here to defend our territory, how can you know what would have happened if we hadn\u2019t done it? Our Mistress says that\u2019s a bit like saying \u2018if a tree falls in a forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a noise?\u2019 Which means I\u2019m going to leave off thinking about the window cleaners and start thinking about trees. Wilma on the other paw has offered to go and hide in a wood to see if she can catch some trees out by them not knowing she\u2019s there. Shadow is thinking of taking the same approach with the window cleaners. I think the trees have got the better deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
