We did have a lovely walk yesterday, dodging the showers, but it all felt very much like autumn. At least the leaves are still on the trees, so it’s not feeling too bleak yet. I was all for staying in bed and did suggest to our Mistress that maybe once she’d done everyone else’s breakfast just she and I could go back and lie down again. Sadly, she seemed to think there was too much to do, which was a pity. I think it’s one of the downsides of not being an only dog, you don’t get so many lie ins with your humans. I’m not sure I’d really want to be an only dog, but I would like the total adoration that comes with it. I’ve always been part of a pack, so it would be strange really. I can’t imagine not having to fight to keep my chew or being able to eat tea at leisure in case one of the others decides they fancy what’s in my bowl. Alfie is the only one who’s ever been an only dog and he says he rather liked it. He’d be an only dog now if we’d give him the chance. I think we all drive him nuts, but that’s what being a family is like.

Talking of family, Wilma will be cross if I don’t send congratulations and all our best wishes to her sister Valeria, who had her puppies a couple of days ago. She’s got four little boys. Sadly, the little girl in the litter didn’t make it, which is always hard. One of my sisters didn’t either and I know Mum and our Mistress still think of her. Anyway, we’re really happy about the boys and glad all is well. Wilma says if they are as lovely as her nephew, Salvo, who lives here in England then the world will be a better place for it. I said I thought Salvo was her half-brother, but it turns out he’s both. This family tree thing can get very confusing when you’re a dog.

You can find short stories to read at www.alfiedog.com

Alfie’s Diary – the Book as well as our other books are available HERE

Well, the weather isn’t getting any better.
