Now, in that situation what would you do this Sunday? I would learn from the experience and spend this Sunday quietly at home with their beloved dogs, but no. Instead they have chosen to go … on another 17 mile cycle ride going in the other direction than they went last Sunday. Now call me stupid, but why would you do that? Ok, so my mum is a little hormonal and is driving us all bonkers, but cycling 17 miles to get away from her is a little extreme. Alfie just goes to the other end of the house and cowers. I’m sure the humans could take the same approach if they really want to. I think our Mistress did use some negotiation skills in the process though. She insisted that this week they would stop on route for a cream tea and I think that bit if nothing else may be sensible.

You’d be proud of me. I found the instinct to cover my Mum’s scent yesterday. It’s not just because I’ve been watching Alfie do that. It suddenly came over me that was what I needed to do. Of course I had to queue up behind Alfie to take my turn and it is making peeing in the garden take an awful lot longer than we pee simultaneously. However at last I’m found some of my primeval instincts. Our Mistress says she hopes I don’t find too many more, but realistically I don’t think that’s likely. I’m too soft to be open to too much of the call of the wild! I’m more the ‘call of the sofa’ type of dog than a howling at the moon sort of boy. I know which side my bread’s buttered and to be fair in the wild I don’t suppose I’d even get any butter with my bread.

Alfie’s Diary – the Book as well as our other books are available HERE

You can find short stories to read at www.alfiedog.com

Last Sunday our humans cycled 17 miles and came home with sore bottoms and never wanting to see a bicycle again.
